Network Marketing Overview

Network Marketing has been around for more than 50 years. It allows a company to sell products or services with little overhead and little to no advertising cost. For someone looking for part-time or full-time work, network marketing sales is an “easy entry, easy exit job,” says Liz Doherty, a spokesman for the Direct

Sellers Association (DSA). “Easy in” means almost anyone can become an independent distributor out of their home for a small investment, usually less than $200. Distributors continue to sell product and recruit others. The company pays an “override” on the sales of those under them in the chain, or “down-line,” in return for having trained them to make the sales.

Network Marketing companies often are confused with illegal pyramid schemes, which charge hefty investment fees and pay participants to recruit others as the sole focus of the sales field. Network Marketing distributors are paid based on product sales and have the benefit of “up-line” training and support.

The Multi-Level Marketing International Association estimates that in the United States alone, nearly 10 million people sell for 1,200 companies. The industry is expanding rapidly abroad. Through Network Marketing, many distributors earn $200 to $300 a month for part-time work. Earnings can be substantially larger. That is because, unlike other retail sales jobs, this one is not limited to one person’s 24 hour day. That time limit is expanded exponentially by the other people in the down-line. Leaders in the industry have been know to make over $100,000. per month. But, industry experts are quick to point out that even part -time income takes work. A network marketing job is not a get-rich-quick-without-work scheme, especially with a reputable company.

Why the popularity of Network Marketing?

First, high technology has become very cheap. That means virtually anyone can afford a personal computer, fax machine, copier, toll-free telephone number, and the software to run a home-based business (though these things are not essential).

Many have found traditional job settings inappropriate for their families. Many distributors are women who want to stay home with young children and want control of their schedules & environment. Many appreciate contact it gives with like people.

Network Marketers appreciate the flexibility that their job provides. Network Marketing gives us the chance to directly reap the rewards of our efforts while building toward unlimited earning potential.

There is a well-organized patter to the development of successful Network Marketing companies. Most stable companies go through 4 discernible stages:

Start-Up: 90% of all companies who start fail.

Consolidation: Company enjoys sales of $3 to $50 million, and must solve problems that come with significant growth, like warehousing and order processing.

Momentum: The geometric growth kicks in as the product becomes a household word. Consultants jump on board, and sales rocket in a very short time span (usually about 5 years) from $50 million to $500 million. Those with networks in place at this point have been know to make fortunes overnight.

Stability: The company is well known, and enjoys continued solid, if less spectacular, success.
